The Penticton Men’s Rec Hockey League has crowned a new champion.
In a thrilling final round, the Highway 97 Wolverines defeated the Biscuits in a best-of-three showdown to capture the league’s championship trophy this week at the South Okanagan Events Centre (SOEC).
Led by league-leading scorer Mitch MacMillan, the Wolverines marched on to win game one 9-8 in overtime, before sweeping the championship round and winning game two by a decisive 5-1 margin.
The league’s annual draft for new players usually takes place in September, prior to the start of the season.
The Wolverines earned themselves the playoffs championship title, while despite not making it to the playoff finals, the league declared the Hitmen the regular-season winners.
