Four locals sign up for Sunday triathlon

An unidentified contestant gets some help removing his wetsuit following the swim event at last year’s Subaru Canada Ironman. This year’s event happens on Sunday.

Three thousand competitors are expected to participate in the 2011 version of the Subaru Ironman Canada triathlon.

Locally there are four competitors out of the Lower Similkameen and Kaleden - Okanagan Falls area participating in this year’s event.

Kaleden participants include perennial triathletes Scott Tremblay and Milt Guignon. Tremblay enters this year’s event in the professional category, following last year’s 16th place finish in the amateur division.

Guignon will be participating in his 14th Ironman race this weekend.

Slava Petlitsa of Okanagan Falls has also participated in past Canadian Ironman events. He finished in 1,487th place last year.

Duncan MacArthur of Keremeos will be participating in his second Canada Ironman.

The 29th Subaru Canada Ironman takes place  throughout the South Okanagan and Lower Similkameen this Sunday, August 28.
