Kassidy Todd finished just off the podium in the freestyle ski competition at the Canada Winter Games.

The 20-year-old mogul skier finished fifth at Canyon Skill Hill resort near Read Deer Alta. She finished with 69.93 points in the qualifying run (fifth) finished third in the second chance run, with 71.64 points and fifth in the first run of the finals with 74.87.

Heading into the games Todd was thankful for the reprieve the games was giving.

“It doesn’t count for anything, but it will be a real cool experience.

“It’s kind of nice to have a competition in the middle of the season where there’s really no pressure on us, have a little break and just have fun with the sport again. We’re on the road for a long time, so it definitely does take away from the fun of it all,” she said.

Todd was joined at the games by Freestyle B.C. squad teammate Brayden Kuroda along with coach Josh Kober.

Kuroda, 18, scored a pair of gold medals, the first coming Sunday in the aerials event and the second Monday in the male moguls competition.

Prior to the event Kuroda said he was just looking to have some fun at the games, especially not having the pressure of netting FIS (International Ski Federation) points like he does in Nor-Am circuit races.

“Sometimes it can be tough on the road so we’re just going to have a good time and a good competition,” said Kuroda.

Kuroda sat on top of the leader board after the qualifier with a score of 83.89, he improved on his final run with 86.81 points.

Todd and Karuda left the Canada Games last Wednesday headed to Colorado for a Nor-Am event.
