Wilf Miller recounts

Long time Keremeos residents recalls the time he created a rock slide of his own

To the Editor:

I am now going on to my 93rd birthday, so this story originates approximately 75 years ago.

We were young and foolish then, and there was quite a large group of us mountain climbing above Summerland.

On Easter morning, about a mile up on a steep grade was  this huge rock of many tons, just teetering.

Could we push it off? Well, we got sticks and prys and worked like slaves and finally got this rock loose. It started down the slope, picking up speed, at times flying through the air. Then it got to a flat spot and slowed down until it got to the highway and stopped.

We were just breathing a sigh of relief and the blame thing made one more flip and landed in the middle of the highway.

Luckily enough, there were no cars there.

My advice to you young folks today - Don’t roll rocks down mountains.

You have no idea where they are going to wind up.

Wilf Miller, Keremeos
