Free series of neighbourly meditation classes offered

To the Editor:

Dear Valley Neighbors,

Last year at this time I offered a free eight week series of meditation classes in Keremeos.  It was well received, and since then there have been requests that I repeat it.

I’d love to do so, if there’s enough interest.  It will be similar to last year’s series, but with some differences that I hope will make it even better.  The introductory session is scheduled for Sunday, May 19, promptly from 9:30 to noon.

Our slogan is “Learn to Meditate in 150 Minutes!” In this extended session you will learn a pleasant and effective way to practice meditation, and you will be able to continue your practice on your own even without further instruction. The rich and sometimes subtle benefits of meditation, however, do depend on continuing and deepening practice. So you will be encouraged to participate in six more Tuesday evening classes, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., beginning May 21.  Yes, they are also free.  Only your prompt and regular attendance is asked of you.

Saint John’s Anglican Church, the corner of 5th Street and 6th Avenue, has graciously offered to house the series again.  Meditation is essentially a spiritual practice, with practical health and wellness benefits. As I teach it, it is non-sectarian.  Persons of any religious orientation or none are welcome (indeed, some of my best fellow meditators are atheists).

An open mind will be helpful; an open heart will be the outcome. I will appreciate your mentioning this opportunity to your friends. Pre-registration will be helpful to me, so I ask that you indicate your interest by phoning Marlene at 499-4822, or emailing me directly at cdr@nethop.net. If interest dictates, I may offer the 150 minute introductory session at an additional alternate time in order to accommodate as many people as possible. Yes, that will be free too – my gift to you.

Warm Regards,  Ron Shonk, M.Div, M.Ed., Olalla
