Candidate clarifies interview statements

To the Editor:

I would like to provide a few points of clarification to the April 5 article about my campaign, relating to my position on GMO foods.

1.  I was referring to Animal Husbandry, breeding, and plant grafting for the past 100 years, not gene modification.

2.  We need proper labelling on all our foods in Canada to let consumers know the contents of all products that contain GMO organisms.

The consumer is more powerful than any legislation.

3. We will work with Agriculture Canada and Health Canada on all GMO products in Canada.

4. Anything deemed unsafe or dangerous by Agriculture Canada or Health Canada will not be allowed in the country.

I apologize for any misunderstanding that may have arisen from my interview comments, and I hope this clarifies my position.

I hope to see you at the All-Candidates Meeting in Keremeos on April 20, 2011.

Sincerely, Stephen Hill

Federal Conservative Candidate
