Canada’s submarine program is one big expensive joke

Canada has no combat ready submarines, almost 15 years after they were purchased. - say what !

To the Editor:

I  just finished reading, with a smile on my face, about Canada’s answer to the American comedy McHales Navy .

The saga of the “Glitchy” obsolete garage sale British Submarine rust buckets has resurfaced in the bowels of the Penticton Herald February 28, 2012.

An update  from the lips of Vice - Admiral Paul Maddison, head of the Royal Canadian Navy suggests, Canada has no combat ready submarines, almost 15 years after they were purchased. - say what !

Gad - I hate to say it again but about 15 years ago I sent a letter to my local newspaper suggesting Sanford and Son would not allow that kind of  embarrassment in their junk yard.

A baby sardine swimming by one of these rusty relics asked her mummy “What in the sea is that?”  Her mummy replied,  “Those are people in a can, dear.”

What chance would this antiquated junk have against the elite technology and power of a Nuclear Red October, other than being the laughing stock of the seven seas.

I would have more faith if  Vice-Admiral Maddison and Defense Minister (Pop- Gun) Peter MacKay if they could show good faith by being submerged when the first obsolete torpedo is tested and fired-  I bet that ain’t gonna happen.

Perhaps by the year 2030  or sooner - the entire pile of sub-service junk can be home for the sardines whom reside down under with Davey Jones and are familiar with afterlife in a can.
