August 12, 1924 - August 28, 2018
On the morning of August 28, 2018, William ("Bill") J. Marten passed away at McKinney Place, Oliver BC.

Bill was born in Toronto, Ontario on August 12, 1924. He made it to his 94th birthday with his wife, son, daughter-in-law, daughter, and most of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren around him just two weeks prior.

In 1943 he volunteered for service in WWII in the RCAF. He wanted to be a pilot on a Halifax bomber, but due to his height, he was seconded as a RCAF service police in London, England during the war. Bill and Marion, moved from Ontario in 1947 and married June 14th, 1947 in Vancouver, celebrating their 71st anniversary this year. Bill worked for the Vancouver City Police from Jan 1947 to July 1980 and retired as Staff Sergeant in the Communications Division.

He is survived by his wife Marion; two children, Jim Marten (Debbie) and Elaine Marten; three grandchildren, (Rob Welte, Jennifer Sereda, Chantal Winser); and eight great-grandchildren (Jaden, Shaela, Ethan, Jared, Marlee, Lexy, Mya, and Luke) He also has 2 brothers, David Marten (Barrie, Ontario) and James (Jim) Marten (Port McNicoll, Ontario). He was predeceased by two grandchildren, Cameron and Larissa.

Family was always important to Bill and he was blessed to have all his family around him frequently. He was known for his wit, tall stature, and kind heart. Bill was a member of many organizations over the years including the Policeman Christian Association, as well as different churches, just to name a few. His stories were captivating, his knowledge was engaging, and his love for his family was unwavering.
