" Just as man is destined to die once, and after that face judgement, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people: and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him"
Hebrews 9: 27,28
On Wed, Oct 20, 2021 Vern Armstrong formerly of Watson Lake, recently of Whitehorse took his first breath in heaven, a place he prepared for when he was only 18 years of age and was 92 when he arrived. Meeting Jesus was what he lived for, and to see his wife of over 40 years, Edith, John and Doris Merriman and other loved ones would have made the best day of his existence! But he left behind to mourn his passing, wife Cynthia, his 4 children Brian, Ruth, Trish and Shari, 8 grandkids and 12 great grandkids.
In the Yukon Vern leaves his brothers Edward Armstrong (Mr Ed's Propane) Lorne Armstrong , sister Doris Terrian, nephews, nieces and a whole whack of friends. He is further survived by brother Bruce Armstrong in Victoria, sisters Isobel Kushniryk (Bill) and Evelyn Yufrym of Swan River Manitoba and Darlene Church (Norman) in Leduc Alberta.
Vern was born in 1929 on a farm in Bowsman River, Manitoba the eldest of 13 kids. He lived in Swan River Man until he was 65, raising his family and working for over 30 years as the Co-op Lumber Manager. His wife died in 1993 and two years later the Lord brought Cynthia to walk alongside him for the next 26 adventure filled years. The Armstrongs moved to Watson Lake in 2003 where Cynthia worked as a home care RN and Vern began to use his carpentry skills and knowledge doing odd jobs for homeowners, the hospital, Johnson Elementary School, Liard Evangelical Free Church, SignPost Seniors and out at Hidden Lakes Bible Camp. He was always ready to help out as he could whenever called upon. Part of the adventures involved Keremeos and Hedley . Vern and Cynthia would stay with her parents, John and Doris Merriman, spending parts of the winters getting to know the great people there and developing friendships that continued after the passing of John and Doris.
Vern will be buried in Birch River Cemetary, Swan River, Man. in June 2022
