July 22, 1933 - June 6, 2024
In loving memory ~
Mae, of Upper Bench Road, Keremeos, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 6, 2024. Mae was born in Edmonton on July 22, 1933 to Dr. Norman and Margaret Taylor. Mae was an only child, but had a large and loving extended family. In 1953, while working at the telephone office in Dawson Creek, she was wooed, won, and wed by Stan Abbott. In '67 the Abbott family moved to Keremeos, enjoying life in the Similkameen Valley for over 50 years.
Mae (Nan) loved living in the apple orchard and wore out many pairs of shoes with her daily long-distance walks. She had a host of friends and neighbors that she enjoyed in her community. She delivered the rural mail and worked for years as a lunch hour supervisor at the local school. Playing bridge, square dancing, and afternoon swims in the Similkameen River were among her favorite activities. Mae was predeceased by Stan in 2007. She was a loving Mom and was treasured by all of her grandchildren.
She is survived by her 3 children, Judy Haker (Don) of Cloverdale, Jean Kearney of Penticton, and Ted Abbott (Tammi) of Keremeos, as well as her 6 grandchildren, Erica, Craig, Andrew, Katie, Brodie, and Kevin, and her great-grandsons, Daniel, Evan, and Kaden. Nan lived the last 5 years of her life at Village by the Station, and the family would like to express their gratitude for the loving care she received there. A family and friends gathering to celebrate Mae, and a life well and truly lived, will be held at the family farm in June.
