John William Stewart Roy

December 3, 2018

January 23, 1952 - December 3, 2018
John passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of December 3, 2018, at the young age of 66 following a decade-long battle with early on-set Alzheimer's. Predeceased by his father Bill and step-mother Grace, John is survived by his loving wife of nearly 48 years, Elfi; daughter Lisa (Jamie), mother Royanne, and brothers Steve (Debbie) and Martyn. He is remembered by his in-laws, extended family and many friends, including those new-found at the South Similkameen Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 192 in Keremeos. He is greatly missed by his devoted dog, Robbie.

A proud Scot by heritage, John was born in Victoria, B.C., where he lived until 2012 before moving to Keremeos, B.C. He loved Vancouver Island where he and Elfi spent countless weekends and vacations exploring its natural beauty and discovering its best fishing lakes. A journeyman carpenter, we often called him "MacGyver" and always looked forward to his next creation. He enjoyed the outdoors, auto racing, a lively discussion and a good mystery novel.

A special thank you to the people at the McIntosh Unit at Brookhaven for their care and support of John the past two years.

A formal affair was not John's thing and per his wishes there will be no memorial. Rather than flowers, kindly consider a donation to the Alzheimer's Society of B.C. in memory of John. Today, we are comforted knowing that John knows who John is again.
