George Russell 'Russ' Stewart

Russ passed away peacefully in Victoria on Nov. 28, 2021. Russ was born at Kinistino, Saskatchewan to George and Mabel Stewart. He was the second of fifteen children. He graduated from Univ. of Saskatchewan (B.Pharmacy 1954) and Baylor Univ. (Master of Hospital Admin. 1967) in San Antonio, Texas. He enjoyed a long career in health care and from 1955-1982 as an officer in The Canadian Forces.
A wonderful husband and father, Russ leaves his wife of 67 years, Lucy (nee Row), his children Ken (Rose), John (Nadia), Tom (Christina), and Maggie (Ken Frasch), and grandchildren Ben, Nick, Alex, Ellie, Katie, Andrew, Johnny, and Nathan. He was predeceased by his son, James, an infant daughter, Lucy, and his granddaughter, Maeve. He also leaves his brothers, Lloyd (Mary), Glen, Myles (Linda) and Dick (Margaret), sisters Ruby Cavenaile (Bruce), MaryAnn Lucich (Joseph)and Joan Lung (Terry) and sisters-in-law Jean and Lidia.
He was predeceased by sisters Verna (Bob)and Veronica (Hugh) and brothers Roy, Wes (Nettie), Lyle and infant brothers Winston and Donald Bruce.
Although Russ never lived in Keremeos/Cawston, he greatly enjoyed his visits here to see his family. A service was held in Victoria on Dec. 3 and there will also be a service in Cawston at a later date. His ashes will be interred at the Cawston Cemetery.
