Frances Laureen Peck

July 20, 2017

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Frances Laureen Peck (née Liddicoat.) Frances, the fourth of five children, was born to William and Frances Liddicoat in Hedley, British Columbia on August 1, 1925. While still a small child, the family moved to Keremeos where she remained for the rest of her life.

Frances married Arthur Peck in 1948. They built a life in Keremeos, Art working for the Department of Highways and Frances working in the Keremeos Post Office for many years. Their two children, Laurel and Ronald, were always a source of joy.

Fran, as she was known, always had a strong commitment to her community and civic participation.

She served on the Keremeos Village Council from 1969 to 1990, as an Alderman and as Mayor from 1973 to 1981. As British Columbia’s first female mayor, she was a trail blazer at a time when women in leadership positions were a rarity. Some of her proudest accomplishments were the completion of the Keremeos Care Facility, the Diagnostic Centre and the Mountain View Manor.

Frances is predeceased by her husband, Arthur Peck and her brothers Alfred and Wallace Liddicoat. She is survived by her siblings Arthur Liddicoat and Freda Webb, her children Ronald and Laurel (David Hetherington), grandchildren Freya (Scott Garthwaite), Marika, and Chloe and great-granddaughter Sophie.

There will be a celebration of life on August 19th at 2:00 pm in Fran’s garden.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation- Frances Peck’s Bus.
