March 22, 2020
Dave died suddenly in Keremeos, BC on March 22, 2020 at the age of 58 years. He is sadly missed by his parents Pat and Gerry Bowes, his brother Ray, and his sister Janice.
Dave graduated from Similkameen Secondary School in 1979 and went on to complete a Bachelor of Arts degree in geography at the University of Victoria. After a long tour of Southeast Asia, he attended Selkirk College in Castlegar where he qualified as a forestry technician. He worked for a time with the provincial forest ministry in Merritt, BC followed by a stint with Bearing Outward, a forestry consultancy. In more recent years he found itinerant work on construction sites, ranches, orchards and vineyards. He was always well liked and easy going.
Dave had a close group of highly creative friends whose company - and conversation, long into the night - was precious and energizing. Among the things he carried, which were few, were their treasured gifts of books, records, and works of original art. Dave was a voracious reader, a pretty good photographer, a passionate debater, and an enlightened fan of offbeat music and performance.
He loved being outdoors and, when he could be persuaded to go fishing once in a blue moon, he always seemed to land the biggest trout. As gentle and generous as he was sometimes obstinate, Dave could be hard to fathom, especially as he let his world become smaller and smaller. There will not be a service or memorial gathering.
