The District of Summerland has received grant funding from the Union of B.C. Municipalities to complete wildfire fuel management treatments on municipal land in the Deer Ridge area.

This is the final phase of three treatments which began several years ago.

Treatment will involve thinning, which will be done by hand crews, chainsaws and possibly some small equipment.

Pile burning, if used, will be done according to municipal bylaws and advance notice will be provided of burning activities as much as possible.

Operations in the area will begin later this week and will finish before the end of March. During this time, some trails in the area will be closed as indicated by signage or flagging across trails. These closures are for public safety.
