Penticton’s beloved artisanal bakery has temporarily reopened.

Walla Artisan Bakery & Cafe, located within the Cannery Trade Centre, will be open the week of Oct. 8 for its regular hours, after announcing its closure last week.

“It seems the tide has turned again. There has been so much demand for the breads that we have been turning over every leaf to try and find a way to keep the bakery open, and we hope we have found one,” said owners Sharon Wiener and Ben Manea, the mastermind behind their secret seven-day fermentation recipe, in a letter to their clients.

Wiener and Manea apologize for the “rollercoaster” experience of them closing and reopening, stating they’re doing their best to honour their customers by providing the best quality bread while simultaneously juggling Manea’s diagnosis of ALS.

“Since Ben’s diagnosis, we have been thrown into rapid changes that most businesses have months, even years to contemplate, and the immense popularity of the Jewish ryes has coincided with all this change,” reads the letter.

Wiener said the best way to stay informed about the status of the bakery is to check their Facebook page, WallaArtisanBakery. For now, whether they will open each week will be determined by the help they have available.
