Argo Road Maintenance crews prepare for winter at the Keremeos yard on November 28. Cold

Similkameen Recreation Centre Manager Karl Donaghue said the Keremeos skating rink was on schedule for its December 8 opening this year.

Below freezing temperatures throughout the final two weeks of November have helped maintenance crews allow their initial flooding to set properly. The ice surface is scheduled for painting this weekend.

A forecast for potentially record setting low temperatures next week could be a curse rather than a blessing however, as excessive cold can cause the ice surface to shrink away from the boards.

At the base of the Keremeos bench, Argo Road Maintenance crews were busy crushing and stockpiling road sand for the upcoming winter season. The Yellow Lake area has been particularly bad for icing conditions early this season.

Craft Fair tables for Christmas Light Up are fully booked, and Infocentre Manager Colleen Christensen is urging those interested to get their parade application in as soon as possible.

The Christmas “Colour the Village” event is now open to adults interested in supplying Christmas art for display in village business windows next week.
