Thieves have been busy stealing catalytic converters in Summerland over the past two weeks.

Several people have come out in the mornings to discover the catalytic converters had been stolen or damaged from their vehicles and motorhomes.

Most of the crimes are taking place in main town.

The most recent theft took place on Sept. 28 in the area of Giants Head Elementary.

They removed one from a Prius and damaged one on a moterhome.

Around a week ago, several motorhomes and vehicles were targeted around the South Victoria area.

The repairs and replacement is very costly for ICBC and most people’s deductible has them paying out hundreds of dollars.

The theft of catalytic converters is a problem everywhere, with several Okanagan not-for-profits being victimized.

In July 2021, a pair of thieves almost got away with stealing a catalytic converter in broad daylight from a Summerland woman’s vehicle parked at Sun-Oka beach. A pair of good Samaritans stopped the thieves in the act.

The thieves got away and had managed to damage the catalytic converter, leaving their tools behind.

The vehicle they drove away in was an older green blue Pontiac. The thieves were described as two men in their 30s.
