There is art in Keremeos

A non-juried art show at Gibson House featured the work of many emerging artists on display. Works of Bonny Roberts

The two day art show at the Gibson House was just abuzz with talk and laughter with approximately 80 people enjoying the art on display.

This non-juried (unjudged) show was hosted by Judy Chisholm to show the community all the fantastic talent we have in this small area. We filled the house with art from Hedley, Keremeos, Olalla and Cawston only.

Works were displayed by artists who are already established and are internationally acclaimed,  and every stage to the artist who was showing for the first time.  This show was an opportunity for the new artist to learn the fundamentals of preparing for and following through with showing their creation to the public.  This less intimidating forum can be a stepping stone to moving on and showing at more formal locations.

Four paintings were sold with the most sales coming from the greeting cards with replicas of original art.

The warm ambience of Gibson House was a pleasing backdrop to such a variety of styles and mediums. Paintings in; acrylic, watercolour, and encaustic with styles in; abstract, landscape, portrait and collage all were there.  Not being limited to hanging art there were one of a kind soapstone carvings which were complemented by Paverpol statues.

One of the most frequently asked questions was, “Will you be doing this again?”  the answer is yes!

I have a few tentative plans in the works, hopefully an art show for the youth of the valley in fall some time and then just before Christmas a special art sale with more economical pieces just in time for Christmas.

In the new year we will see another general juried art show for all artists, but…it may have a theme. So stay in touch and wait for more information.

If you would like to join other artists at the Gibson House, or just be advised when the shows are on, or want to take an art course, call Judy at 250-499-6034.
