Just in time for the upcoming heat wave, water bottle fill stations are now available at Rotary Beach and Memorial Park in Summerland.
On June 13, Summerland council approved through a resolution to install two water bottle fill stations to provide accessible water to the community in light of the heat dome in 2021.
On July 14, the two fill stations were installed and have been operational since July 18.
One is in Memorial Park on the outside wall of the washrooms and the second on the wall of the Rotary Beach washrooms. The fill stations are open seasonally from April to October. In addition to the recently installed water fill stations at public parks, the Summerland Aquatic Centre also has one new bottle fill station inside the centre available for public use during operating hours.
The City of Penticton has seven water bottle refill stations with one at Okanagan Lake and one at Skaha as well as downtown.
Summerland and all of the South Okanagan is going through a heat wave with the week of July 25 to the B.C. long weekend expected to see temperatures rise into the high 30s.
