Two structure fires broke out in a single day in Spallumcheen.
After keeping a barn blaze contained that was narrowly close to another large barn, firefighters battled a workshop fire just hours later.
Armstrong Spallumcheen Fire Department was called to Creamery Road around 12 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4.
A workshop caught fire and extended into the home, but the owners were able to get themselves out in time.
“The shop is a total loss, the house has smoke and water damage and some fire damage to one area," said fire chief Rob Brown.
A cause of the blaze has not yet been determined but Brown cautions residents during the winter to be careful with heat sources.
“People with portable heaters, make sure they’re in good condition with cords and do not use extension cords,” Brown urged.
