The Indo-Canadian community of the South Okanagan’s pledge to the Penticton Regional Hospital has received a boost thanks to a generous Penticton resident.

Jaswinder Garib is donating $30,000 to the $500,000 pledge the community made to the South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation for medical equipment for the hospital expansion. The community has raised $450,000 of the $500,000 pledge.

Garib emphasizes her contribution is just a small portion of the overall pledge her community has made and praised the hard work of the campaign organizers and hundreds of donors involved.

“As a community, we’ve now been in the Okanagan for a long time and it’s good to see our community coming out and creating a bigger presence by putting on events,” said Garib. “The good thing about the Punjabi community is we enjoy doing things collectively and helping wherever we can. When we work together we can really do great things.”

The new tower of the Penticton Regional Hospital will be ready for patients in April 2019. Phase 2 of the $312-million project will then begin, including an upgrade to the emergency department.
