Wildfire smoke prompted Environment Canada to issue a special air-quality statement Saturday morning for parts of the Similkameen, including Princeton.
The smoky skies bulletin says the area may be impacted by wildfire smoke over the next 24 to 48 hours.
“Wildfire smoke is a natural part of our environment but it is important to be mindful that exposure to smoke may affect your health,” the bulletin reads.
The statement — first released after midnight on Saturday — also applies to Kimberley, Cranbrook and Kootenay Lake, including Creston. The next update is scheduled for later on Oct. 8.
“Smoke conditions can change quickly over short distances and can vary considerably hour-by-hour,” Environment Canada’s statement adds.
The last update from both Environment Canada and B.C. Ministry of Environment was issued at 12:26 p.m.
