A 26-year-old man was arrested by an off-duty Penticton RCMP officer on Saturday (March 12) after attempting to shoplift from a business on Skaha Lake Road.

The officer saw the man stuffing his jacket with store products at around 12:20 p.m. and arrested him on the spot.

“Our officers not only work in the community, but they live here too,” said Penticton RCMP Supt. Brian Hunter.

The shoplifter was at a business in the 2600-block of Penticton’s Skaha Lake Road.

“Police officers are always on-duty and can respond to crimes in progress in a number of different ways, like stepping in and identifying themselves or calling 911 to be the best possible witness,” RCMP said in a statement.
