Discovery House is only $22,630 away from its $150,000 goal to build a sober living home. As of Tuesday, there is still five days left to donate to the Shed the Light on Addictions campaign that started the first week of December.
It has been an amazing year at Discovery House with 11 men celebrating a year and dozens celebrating multiple years in substance free recovery. This year, Discovery House has been able to add lifetime counselling and peer support meetings open to all alumni.
They opened Parker Place in loving memory of Colin Parker and to honour the contributions by his mother Janet Parker and Parker’s Chrysler to the organization.
“This independent sober living home houses five men who have achieved a year or more in substance free recovery and are returning to the community, to work and rebuilding their family relationships,” said Discovery House executive director Jerome Abraham.
They are working with builder Schoenne Homes to add a three bedroom carriage home to this site. This will be their fourth recovery home. Discovery House also got a boost for the first time from the provincial government with three year funding for five of their beds.
“We have also added a dedicated Indigenous bed in both our primary treatment and semi-independent living homes and continue to work with Indigenous partners to implement culturally relevant recovery options,” said Abraham. “Please help light the way to recovery for someone in need of a life free from substance use.”
