The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen has awarded the Okanagan Falls Sewer Master Plan project to Urban Systems Ltd.

The bid is for $113,785 and a contingency of $25,000 will be established.

The sewer system in Okanagan Falls was designed and constructed in the late 1970s and serves most of the community and the southern industrial area. There are around 1,250 connections, serving a population of around 2,200 people.

The new plan is needed because of the Okanagan Falls Town Centre Zone. This zone was introduced in the Electoral Area D Official Community Plan and zoning bylaw. It allows for medium-density development.

As a result of this zone, most of the collection system infrastructure will need to be updated.

The bid from Urban Systems was the lowest of the four bids received for the work. The budgetary limit for the work was set at $120,000 and the highest of the bids was $117,093.

In a report to the regional district board, Stephen Juch, development engineering supervisor with the regional district, said the proposal from Urban Systems provided a more complete work plan. The project is expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2023.

Funding for this project was allocated in the 2022 budget.
