Saturday mishap in Okanagan Falls results in death

Motorist backs over pedestrian at flea market

An unusual traffic accident in Okanagan Falls on Saturday has claimed the life of a 64 year old Okanagan Falls man.

At approximately 1 p.m., Penticton RCMP and other emergency services were called to the flea market lot on Ninth Avenue where they determined that a 62 year old male from Edmonton had struck an Okanagan Falls resident sitting in a folding chair.

The accident occurred when the motorist, while moving his vehicle, suddenly reversed, striking the man as he sat near a food vendor’s trailer. The man was transported to Penticton Regional Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Investigation into the incident continues. Speed and alchohol do not appear to have been factors, but charges are pending against the driver.

The deceased’s name is currently being withheld pending notification of family members.
