Rockslide damages vehicles on Highway 3 west of Hedley

A significant rockslide has occurred just west of Hedley on Highway 3.

UPDATE 7:20 p.m.

The road is open following a rockslide about two kilometres west of Hedley.

Two vehicles were damaged when several four-foot round boulders fell onto the roadway.

One of the driver’s veered off into the ditch and had extensive damage to the front end while the other suffered damage to one of its wheels. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.

No injuries were reported by emergency personnel who attended.

Reports are coming in that a significant rock slide has occurred on Highway 3 just west of Hedley.

Emergency responders including firefighter from Keremeos and Hedley, Argo and RCMP are currently headed to the area.

Reports suggest several vehicles were damaged by the falling rocks and debris continues to come down.

It’s unknown exactly how many vehicles were involved and if anyone was injured.

Anyone travelling that way should expect significant delays. It’s unknown when the road might reopen.
