An empty lot on Ellis Street could become a much-needed rental apartment.

At the July 7 council meeting, Ryzak Properties is submitting an application for an OCP amendment, rezoning and

development permit for 641, 655 Ellis Street.

The application proposes to amend the OCP designation from ground oriented residential to urban residential, and to

rezone from P1 (Public Assembly) to RM5 (Urban Residential) to construct a three-storey, 16 rental apartments of one and two bedrooms.

In the report to council, Ryzak says the vacancy rate in Penticton is less than one per cent.

City staff are recommending that council allow the application to proceed to public engagement.
