Regional board refuses to comment on Canada Post operations

Request to board by Canadian Union of Postal Workers to board passes after modification

The regional district board of directors didn’t feel it was their place to “mess in other people’s business” by telling Canada Post how to run the business of mail delivery when it came to a resolution put forward at the Corporate Services Committee meeting on November 21.

An appeal to the board by the Canadian Union  of Postal Workers to support two resolutions calling for Canada Post to focus on revenue - gathering service intiatives during an upcoming review of the Canadian Postal Service Charter failed after board discussion concluded that it wasn’t the board’s place to make such requests of Canada Post.

The board did, however, agree to a second resolution, asking staff to draft a letter to the minister responsible for Canada Post requesting that the upcoming review be made open to the public.
