RDOS board meeting briefs

911 funding, library taxation and farewell to RDOS financial manager part of February 7 meeting.

The regional district needed an amendment on the enhanced 911 emergency telephone number service agreement in order to have  the funding to pay for the service in this year’s budget.

The existing agreement for the service, which provides 911 service for police and ambulance services, comes through the Central Okanagan Regional District.

The current agreement does not have a high enough ceiling to accommodate this year’s increase in costs due to RCMP increases. An amendment to raise the ceiling from 1.5 to 1.7  million dollars was carried by the RDOS board at the February 7 meeting.

The  increased cost of the service, which came about as a result of a big increase in the cost of RCMP services The Central Okanagan Regional District has issued a Request for Proposals as it seeks to find other service providers.

 

 

 

Warren Everton, Financial Services Manager for the regional district, is leaving  the position he has held for three years for another opportunity at the Okanagan Tree Fruit Co-op .

Everton received copious amounts of praise last week as he toured the region to deliver budget presentations.

“Warren has been a very competent individual,” said Chief Administrative Officer Bill Newell at the February 7 regional district board meeting,  noting that Everton had overhauled the budget process in his time at the RDOS.

Everton’s position will be filled by Sandy Croteau, who comes to thoe job with previous regional district experience.

 

 

 

Area “C” Director Allan Patton urged the RDOS Board of Directors to “pass on our concern for massive increases in the library budget.

 

It has gotten out of hand. The ORL needs to go to zero per cent.”
