Work to fix a pedestrian path on Osoyoos Lake is now underway, four years after floodwaters overtopped the road and pathway in the area.
The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen started its repairs just south of Osoyoos on Monday, Oct. 17, in the 1800 block of 45th Street.
Work will consist of removing and replacing a failed retaining wall, with a portion of the roadway also set to be removed and repaved.
“Floodwaters in 2018 overtopped the road and pathway in this area, causing damage to the retaining wall,” the RDOS said in a press release. “The failed geobag retaining wall is no longer providing adequate support to the pathway.”
The RDOS added that its intent with the repairs is to provide a safe pedestrian corridor between an existing pathway within the town and Osoyoos Lake Regional Park.
Work is expected to be complete by Dec. 30.
