A Bridesville man and his wife suffered minor injuries after swerving to miss a dog on Highway 3 at the western end of Keremeos on Friday, Jan. 20.
The Ford F150 pickup came to a rest in Parsons Fruit Stand after veering into the ditch near Boundary Road. The vehicle clipped Parson’s large sign, located at the west edge of the property before crashing into the building. Fortis was called to disconnect power after the fruit stand’s meter was damaged. The building might also have suffered structural damage after a support post was struck, so the truck will not be removed from the building until that fact can be determined.
Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in the mishap. In spite of several days of snow and frigid temperatures, the highway in front of Parsons was not excessively slippery, being mostly bare at the time.
For some reason, accidents seem to happen on this piece of highway just inside the Keremeos village limits. Two summers ago, a motorist drove his vehicle off the road on the opposite side of Parsons, colliding with the fruit stand's antique automobile, which sits in the field well off the highway.
Last summer, a motorist drove into the cherry orchard just east of Parsons Fruit Stand.
