Penticton had the first reported “scary” clown sighting.

Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth of the Penticton RCMP said the incident happened about 5 p.m. Oct. 12 as a teenage girl was walking home along Yorkton Avenue.
“She noticed somebody across South Main Street wearing yellow pants, a black t-shirt and a scary clown mask, said Wrigglesworth.
That person then crossed the street and although they did not say anything to her, she became frightened.
The issue of scary clowns surfaced in the U.S. and have since spread to Canada.
Earlier this month, the organization Safer Schools Together issued a parent advisory which was distributed to local schools about “clown-related threats.”
The letter refers to threats referencing kidnapping or targeting schools with violence although as earlier this month there had been no violence reported. In the letter parents were urged to talk to their children about reporting the threats to school administrators or authorities.
In Penticton, Wrigglesworth said no threats were made and police did not receive any other reports of a clown sighting.
Officers did attend the scene, but were unable to locate the clown.
