The photo above is what’s left of a vehicle that was torched Tuesday night near the gravel pit up Carmi Road in Penticton.
Residents in the area saw police vehicles head to the fire around 10:15 p.m.
“Our officers are investigating this as an arson,” confirmed Penticton RCMP spokesperson Const. James Grandy. “We haven’t been able to confirm ownership of the vehicle to confirm if it’s stolen or not.”
No one was around or inside the vehicle when police arrived. There wasn’t anyone injured in the area either, said Grandy. Forestry assisted with putting out the burning truck because the Carmi mountain area is without fire protection services.
This area is also a common spot for stolen vehicles to be torched.
A vehicle was torched and left to burn in December 2020 on that same road.

But with these tinder-dry conditions, this vehicle fire was extra concerning that it could have sparked a wildfire in the area.
