More joint Penticton Indian Band and B.C. Wildfire Service controlled burns are scheduled to begin on Nov. 9 around Penticton.
The burns are set to consume 1,300 piles of wood debris throughout the Penticton Fire Zone as part of ongoing fuel management in the area.
Around 1,100 piles were burned previously, starting on Nov. 1.
The upcoming burns will be located around 10 kilometres northeast of Penticton near the Steward Forest Service Road as part of the Carmi landscape fuel break and in the White Lake basin around the Dominion Radio Astrophysical Observatory.

Staff from the Penticton Indian Band and BC Wildfire Service will carefully prepare, control and monitor these fires. Smoke and/or flames may be visible throughout the central and south Okanagan valley, including in the communities of Kelowna, Peachland, Summerland, Penticton, Okanagan Falls and from along Highway 97 and Highway 3A.
The exact timing of the burns will depend on site, weather, venting and snow conditions. Burning will proceed only if conditions are suitable and allow smoke to dissipate.
