Penticton council delayed the decision on whether to implement a single-use plastic ban until they have more clear guidelines to work with.
Council voted to hold off until the provincial government issues more clear guidelines for municipalities who are interested in creating such bans.
The revised guidelines are currently expected some time in December, a short enough wait that council felt was worth delaying for.
Once the guidelines are released, and if council gave their approval to a ban, it may still take time for it to come into effect.

Salmon Arm recently brought back their single-use plastic ban, which is set to be adopted in January 2022 but may not take effect until June, after their initial 2019 ban became unenforceable.
The ban that Penticton would be looking at would apply to items such as grocery bags, utensils and straws, but would not apply to grocery store packaging or plastic bottles.
Some private businesses have been implementing bans of their own. Earlier this year, Safeway in Penticton eliminated plastic bags.
