The Kamloops Fire Centre rescinded open burning in the Kamloops Fire Centre’s jurisdictions, effective at noon on Tuesday, October 15.

due to a  decreased risk of wildfires.

Burning of waste, slash, stubble or grass is now allowed in the South Okanagan and Lower Similkameen.

Fireworks and burning barrels can also be lit in areas not subject to local bylaws.

This rescinding of the open fire prohibition applies to all BC Parks,  Crown lands and private lands, but does not apply within the boundaries of local governments that have forest fire prevention bylaws and are  serviced by fire departments.

Anyone contemplating lighting an open fire should first check with  civic authorities to see if any local burning restrictions are in  effect.
