Official election results for Keremeos were released earlier this month

The official results of the Oct. 20 election were released to council earlier this month.

Only 15 votes separated the mayoral candidates. Mayor Manfred Bauer received 299 votes, and Arlene Arlow received 284.

The breakdown is as follows. Seventeen mail ballots were received by the village between Oct. 1 and Oct. 20. Bauer received 11 while Arlow received six. In special voting on Oct. 11 at Orchard Haven - Bauer received eight votes while Arlow received five. On advance voting day on Oct. 10 - Bauer, 83 votes, while Arlow received 71. And on General Election day on Oct. 20 Bauer received 197 votes while Arlow received 202.

Three ballots were rejected, (one on advance voting, and two on general election day).

In the referendum on whether residents in the fire protection area approved taking out a $350,000 loan to buy a new fire truck - 851 residents voted yes while 162 voted no.

Voter turnout for Keremeos was estimated at 46 per cent using the number of eligible voters provided through census data compared to how many voted.

The election cost just under $8,000 to put on.
