A large hedge of cedars near the China Palace restaurant in Penticton were set on fire Wednesday night.

Penticton Fire Department is calling the Main Street blaze suspicious. A passerby called it in right away and firefighters were able to extinguish it quickly.

The fire took out a 20-foot long section of cedars at the edge of the parking lot.

In the daylight, little greenery remained.

Comments on social media indicated this wasn’t the first time suspicious fires have been lit in the area.

According to assistant fire chief Rob Trupp, there were no witnesses to the origins of the fire.

No structures were exposed and no injuries reported.
