By comparison, in July 2020, the municipality issued 22 building permits, with a value of $2,613,200.

However, the number of permits issued since the beginning of 2021 is higher than the same period in 2020, and on par with recent years.

From January to July, Summerland issued 123 building permits, with a value of $17,914,000. During the same period in 2020, 104 building permits worth $16,127,500 had been issued.

“July saw a cooling off in the growth trend for the number of planning applications submitted,” Brad Dollevoet, director of development services, said in a report to council. “No new subdivision or rezoning applications were submitted. However, the district did receive four development permits and three development variance permits.”

One of the development applications submitted in July is for an environmentally sensitive development permit for the solar and battery project.

In addition, the municipality has been active with the Hunters Hill project as Phase 1 of this subdivision has received substantial completion, allowing occupancy to the first home in this area, Dollevoet said.
