New West Bench bus route to Penticton now running

The route with stops at Cherry Lane mall and Penticton Plaza is free until Jan. 10

B.C. Transit’s new West Bench route has started and to get people used to it service is free until Jan. 10.

The new route has stops in Penticton at Cherry Lane mall, Penticton Plaza and the intersection of Wade Avenue and Winnipeg Street.

In West Bench the bus route has stops at Sandstone Drive, West Bench Drive at the intersection with Jonathan Drive and at Russet Drive at the intersection with West Bench Hill Drive.

After Jan. 10 the service will be $2.25 a trip, with discounts available through passes and ticket sets available at the RDOS office on Martin Street in Penticton.

Anyone using the West Bench transit service between Jan. 3 and 7 will also be invited to enter for their chance to win a gift certificate to Landmark Cinemas. Bring your own pen or pencil to fill out a ballot and drop it in the onboard contest box. The winner will be drawn on Jan. 14, 2022.

The additional route and trips are part of the ongoing work on the Okanagan Similkameen transit future plan, which is currently undergoing updates from the 2015 version of the plan.
