Local organization makes appeal for foster homes

Foster Parents Urgently Needed in the South Okanagan Similkameen

  • Jun. 2, 2014 1:00 p.m.

Okanagan Foster Parents Association are appealing to the public for qualified foster homes as shortages are being felt in the area.

Area residents are urged to come to one of the association’s  weekly information sessions.

Foster families open their homes and their hearts to children of all ages.

Children come into their homes needing a safe place, to be cared for and accepted for who they are. Some children stay a few days, while others may stay longer. Some children are even adopted by their foster family and others remain in close contact even after they return home. They care for children with a wide array of behaviors and challenges. They work as part of a team of professionals centered on the child and their needs.

Homes and families are thoroughly screened and education is provided before placement.

Information sessions are held on Wednesday’s at the MCFD resource office #104-1873 Main St. in Penticton.
