The Keremeos Volunteer Fire Department would like to inform business owners that we are once again partnering with Community Safety Net, who utilize the “Fire Safety - Smart Choices for LIFE” pamphlets to educate and protect our young people.

These booklets are for grade two and three students at Cawston Primary School and are full of fire and life safety information. We find that the “Fire Safety” book and DVD provide our youth with essential tools to prevent fires and be prepared.  They also show parents how to be pro-active in keeping their home and children fire-safe.  These booklets are handed to students during fire prevention week in October.

The Community Safety Net “Fire Safety” materials are funded by local business and community partners.

We have also received some complaints that the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs (CAFC) is telemarketing for donations in our area. None of the donations made to the CAFC will be paid to any local fire department directly – all funds go to the CAFC and their telemarketer. The CAFC has confirmed that they are in the B.C. market place and will continue until September 2012.

The CAFC is a worthy organization, but if you want to make a donation to a local organization, it is best to do so at the local level.
