Ice skating rink remains open and conditions are great.

Donna Bartlett from Friends of the Skating Rink said in previous years the rink closed at the end of January, but as long as there’s people using it and the ice holds it will remain open.

She noted there’s been record numbers for mites drop-in mites hockey.

“I counted 17 plus some adults and older siblings. Keith Erickson and other volunteers are doing a great job making this drop in program possible. Turnout for drop in sticks and pucks (9-14 years) and adult (15 years plus) has also been great: between 10 and 14 participants each time and goalies are showing up too. Equipment is available to use for free if you don’t have your own,” she said in an email to the Review.

Daytime skating numbers are down. But there is after school skating Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. There are also skates on Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Evening public skating is Wednesday from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

“People should come out and enjoy the rink while it is still open. Weather can change fast in late January. The manager (Shane) and staff will keep the ice going as long as weather permits but the public needs to come out and use it to make that worth while. Free skating passes are still available at the schools,” Bartlett said.
