New “accommodations” at the Keremeos RCMP detachment are awaiting final approval. The jail cells will ease transport duty for local police

Keremeos will have some new accommodations in the near future.

However, these quarters are not likely to be highly sought after by tourists or residents looking for a room for, say, visiting in - laws.

The Keremeos RCMP detachment’s new jail cells may be soon ready for occupancy. There has been a lengthy delay in the commissioning of the three holding cells and drunk tank, as federal officials have made several inspections that included modifications to the premises in the past year.

Detachment Commander Mike Gallagher said that he expects the jail to be given approval for use in the next month or so.

RCMP also reported this week that they arrested three youths in connection with spray paint and break and enter incidents that took place in the village over the Christmas holidays.

The youths, whose names cannot be released under the youth criminal justice act are facing numerous charges of break and enter and mischief.

The three youths have been released into the custody of their guardians and are scheduled to appear in court in February.
