Keremeos will be getting its third gas station soon, and with it the first and only fast food restaurant in the community.

Signs have gone up for the new Chevron station and attached convenience store and drive-thru restaurant located at the lot across from the Fire Hall on Highway 3 in downtown Keremeos.

Although which restaurant will go into the location isn’t specified, it is likely to be a Triple-O’s based on other Chevron locations and their partnerships.

While Keremeos boasts a great selection of locally-owned cafes, restaurants and pubs, its only franchise food establishments is the Subway at Hilltop, unlike its neighbour Princeton which has a Dairy Queen, A&W and Subway.

Residents took to social media to express concerns about the addition of a new gas station so close to the one on Hilltop.

Others expressed a mix of concern and support for the attached fast-food restaurant.

Many also aired concerns about how the new business will impact a strained labour situation in the community.

The village confirmed that no rezoning for the property was required, as it was already allowed for a service station on the lot. Construction is expected to begin soon and fencing has already gone up.

The project has been over a year in the making, with the development permit having been submitted initially to the village in 2022.

A timeline for when the construction is estimated to be completed is not public.
