An assault at the Buy-Low Foods in Keremeos on Feb. 15 was not domestic violence as originally reported by the RCMP. It was an alleged attack on a stranger.

The victim’s father reached out to the Keremeos Review to say that his daughter didn’t know the suspect attacker and was allegedly assaulted by someone protesting in connection to the ‘Freedom Convoy.’

He went on to say that his daughter’s physical injuries will heal but her emotional scars will last forever.

On Wednesday, Keremeos Cpl. Chad Parsons confirmed that the assault, allegedly by that of a 70-year-old man was a stranger attack, not domestic.

“This file was originally reported to police by a third party witness as a domestic assault: as a result, several officers responded,” said Cpl. Parsons.

“After further investigation, it was determined the parties were not known to each other. Charges of assault will be recommended to Crown in due course.”

A large police presence was outside the Buy-Low Foods on Feb. 15 where the 70-year-old man was arrested at the scene. It’s not known if the victim was taken to hospital or the extent of her injuries.
