Keremeos director seeks clarification of heritage branch intentions

Keremeos Director Manfred Bauer asked RDOS staffer to find out what the heritage branch intends to do with sites like Grist Mill

Keremeos Director Manfred Bauer asked regional district staffer Lindsay Bourque to find out what the provincial heritage branch intends to do with heritage sites like Keremeos Grist Mill and Gardens.

He told the board and staff that he was receiving different messages from the heritage branch with respect to the Grist Mill, one that appeared to have the branch divesting itself of heritage sites, while the other message talked of developing business plans for the operation.

“It’s a time sensitive issue,” Bauer said, “we need to know their objective.

If they are not interested in heritage sites, we should know their intention there.”

Area “G” Director Angelique Wood also expressed an urgency in a “need to  know what’s going on.”

Bourque agreed to contact heritage officials, noting that they had recently expressed an interest in meeting with the board or those directors affected by mill operations.
