A Kelowna based helicopter company is introducing a new way for wine tourists to visit the region’s wineries - by air. The company initiated its Helicopter Wine Tours program this past weekend.

Kelowna’s Valhalla Helicopters launched their cutting edge Helicopter Wine Tour program this past weekend, bringing a exciting new dimension to the wine tourism industry. Clients of Valhalla Tours charter a Bell-206 four passenger helicopter for a total of six hours for their own private and unique excursion, which includes two hours of flying time. The “wine lover’s” select several wineries they wish to visit, from Valhalla’s list of 30 Okanagan and Similkameen wineries agreeing to have the tours. Cost of the tour is $2,500, taxes included.

Sunday’s flight included stops at two Similkameen Valley wineries as the first clients had requested wineries “off the beaten path”. First stop on the tour was CrowsnestWinery and Restaurant where the guests enjoyed lunch paired with Crowsnest’s select wines.

After a brief flight down the valley, the tour touched down along the river at Forbidden FruitWinery for a sampling of their organic wines. Forbidden Fruit’s media and marketing manager Teshia Venables noted “the group was having the time of their lives and were literally ‘blown away’ by our scenic valley. In terms of people numbers, it may not be big, but their word of mouth about what they’ve seen in the valley will be huge.”
